How Will I Work To Increase Academic Excellence?
Board members do not run the schools or dictate curriculum. Board members oversee the Superintendent and ensure the conditions, leadership, resources, and accountability are in place for schools to thrive. Here’s how I would contribute to Glen Rock’s success:
Budget Oversight – Carefully review budgets to ensure funds are directed toward effective teaching, strong curriculum, enrichment programs (STEM, early literacy, social-emotional learning), and essential student services.
Supporting Teachers – Teachers are at the heart of learning. I will support professional development and a positive school environment so educators can excel.
Performance & Accountability – Engage with state-required assessments (such as NJSLA, NJGPA, and Science) to understand student progress. I will ask the questions that bring clarity to trends, root causes, and improvement steps so the community stays informed.
District Goals – Ensure annual Superintendent goals emphasize rigorous curriculum, student achievement, and teacher support.
Evidence-Based Benchmarks – Advocate for proven milestones: 3rd grade reading proficiency, strong math foundations by 5th grade, and Algebra 1 mastery on time. Monitor year-over-year growth, not just single test scores.
Equity & Special Services – Champion programs that ensure students with disabilities and learning differences have the resources they need to succeed.
Whole-Child Focus – Recognize that true academic excellence also requires attention to student well-being, inclusion, and a sense of belonging.
